01 January 2011

And so a new year begins.

New beginnings. 2011.
It's a little strange to think that I am linked to a different century than my children... and that they only have a post 9/11 perspective of the world.  Someday Owen will tell people, "My parents were born in the 1900's".  These are the things I ponder while considering resolutions for the new year.

It would be so easy to rattle off a whole list of desirable goals in the familiar categories of diet, exercise, personal growth, relationships, organization, etc...  A list that looks so noble and exciting in January is so daunting and burdensome by March.  However, I do think it's important to set goals - ones that are manageable, but still require some effort beyond our comfort zone.  I am only choosing to list three publically - because frankly if you aren't telling me yours, why should I tell you all mine - ha!

FIRST~  I am doing the Beth Moore Bible memory challenge with a college friend.  It's a very do-able goal, but potentially very impacting as well.

SECOND~  I got the girls and I the Mother/Daughter Daily Devotional by Dannah Gresh.  Now right off the bat I can tell you that we won't accomplish it in a year because doing it "daily" is NOT a do-able goal for us.  However, I am looking forward to doing at least 2 or 3 times a week together.  It's so hard to carve out that individual time with three kids at very different stages.

THIRD~  At the risk of posting the cliche weight loss/exercise goal... I want to continue to get to the Y three times a week.  Mostly because I just feel so much better about everything else when I get my butt kicked in RPM class!  Not seeking a particular outcome or number per se, just really want to be healthy and sane which for me means time by myself at the gym.   Unfortunately, this tends to be the first thing cut out of my schedule when the kids get sick or life gets busy.

Sure there are lots of other things I loved to cross off my "life list" this year as well, but I think sticking to these three will be more than enough for me.  If I make it through tax season with some bit of success in any of these, I will be thrilled!
