The other day we were running late for afterschool activities. Possibly because two of my kids needed to be at different places at the same time. I forgot something in the house and so I gave Owen a very specific instruction to get in the van and climb in his seat while I ran back inside.
When I came out, he was not in his seat, but instead jumping around in the back of the van. I redirected him to his seat. While straping him in the carseat, I began my verbal discourse of how I needed him to obey the first time and explained that I needed his cooperation... blah, blah, blah.
When I finished, he looked right at me a calmly said, "Mommy, thank you for using your words."
